Tell us how the economic crisis affected you

clipart-financeThe global economic crisis may be ebbing but many of those who were affected by it have yet to recover fully from its effects. In some cases, livelihoods and lives have been profoundly and permanently affected.

AWARE is conducting a study of the impact of the economic crisis on women in Singapore and their families. There will be two parts to the study – a survey of as many women in Singapore as possible, and in-depth discussions with a smaller number who represent a cross-section of our society.

The results will be collated by the CEDAW Subcommittee’s Economic Impact team for a report to support possible advocacy on policy initiatives. The findings will also be used for the CEDAW Shadow Report that we submit to United Nations periodically to show how women are doing in Singapore.

The survey can be completed online or by printing out and filling in the survey form, and then mailing it back to AWARE.

Braema Mathi, chair of the CEDAW Subcommittee, said: “We hope AWARE members will help with this effort both by completing the survey and by encouraging other women to do so too. We want to reach out to a wide range of women so it would be good if members can print the questionnaire and pass it to women who may not have internet access.”
