AWARE is looking for a dynamic person with excellent people skills to assist our Support Services team in:

• Operating AWARE’s newly established Sexual Assault Befriender Service (SABS)
• Co-ordinating and maintaining AWARE’s Support Services, which includes our Helpline, face-to-face counselling and Legal Clinic.

This person will report directly to the Support Service Manager.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Effectively running AWARE’s SABS programme including:
• Management of SABS cases, including providing and arranging for counselling for SABS cases
• Ensuring adequate and timely response to SABS calls
• Liaising with authorities, including the police and hospitals and lawyers, to facilitate the above
• Setting up systems and processes to ensure consistently high standard of delivery of services
• Motivating, training and developing volunteers as SABS befrienders
• Creating an effective communication system for Befrienders to ensure timely response to SABS calls

• Coordinate and maintain AWARE’s Support Services, including:
• Daily administration of Support Services
• Assist in sustaining, supporting and training volunteers related to Support Services
• Assist in documenting and implementing procedures for the various services to ensure a consistently high standard of service

• Assist in promoting AWARE’s SABS and other Support Services

• Help identify issues requiring advocacy, action and/or research

WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum 4 years experience in both management and counselling, preferably in an NGO or similar organisation

EDUCATION
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counselling or Psychology

COMPETENCIES

• Ability to work as a team player and build strong teams
• Ability to take timely action in emergency situations
• Experience working with NGOs, ability to work collaboratively
• Understanding and ability to analyse emerging social issues and trends
• Understanding of gender issues
• Experience in dealing with PTSD is a bonus.

AWARE offers a twice-monthly Legal Clinic that takes place on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, to provide women with free legal information and advice.

We are looking for female lawyers to volunteer for our Legal Clinic.

Requirements:

• Practicing or non-practicing lawyers who have been called to the Singapore Bar.
• Some family law experience preferred but not essential.
• For lawyers without family law experience, 4 sit-in sessions with senior counsel are required.
• You need to commit to volunteering at least 4 to 6 times a year for AWARE’s Legal Clinic.

The three-part Financial Awareness & Confidence Training (FACT) workshop series is one of AWARE’s signature training programmes. Through FACT, we aim to equip women with the knowledge they need to gain greater financial security.

These workshops cover personal financial management, understanding insurance, and investment skills. Find out more about FACT here.

Next year, AWARE wants to bring FACT into the workplace and other venues. To do so, we need:

• More FACT trainers.
• Volunteers for a FACT marketing committee

Requirements for becoming a FACT trainer and/or facilitator (freelance position with pay):

For FACT 1 – Money and Me: Personal experience (5 years) with managing own money or other people’s money i.e. familiarity with budgeting, financial planning, investing.

For FACT 3 – Growing My Money: Personal experience with managing own money or other people’s money i.e. familiarity with budgeting, financial planning, investing, familiarity with different asset classes.

Interest and/or experience in training and giving presentations would be ideal.

AWARE is building a CEDAW micro-site and we need a series of stock images we can use for this website. Purchasing such images can be costly. Therefore, we are hoping that you can help us out!

We’re looking for women who are willing to pose for photographs that we can use for this new micro-site. The specifics:

Age: 16 and above
Race: Doesn’t matter – all are welcome!

You may have to act out certain roles – as an abused foreign domestic worker, a pregnant employee or a sick elderly women with limited access to healthcare. The shoot will be helmed by a professional photographer.

AWARE seeks a Research & Advocacy Director to develop, implement and manage AWARE’s research and advocacy capabilities to position AWARE as the leading NGO agency on Singapore’s compliance with the Convention On The Elimination Of All Forms Of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and gender issues in Singapore.

JOB SCOPE

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Research & Advocacy Director is responsible for the following:

1. Define the direction and purpose for AWARE’s broad-based research and advocacy agenda for the next five years.
2. Focus on the delivery of AWARE’s research and advocacy strategy, including programme development and implementation.
3. Develop outreach programmes for key stakeholders and represent AWARE to the public at such programmes.
4. Build (where applicable) partnerships and positive relationships with governmental and other non-governmental organisations to achieve mutual goals.
5. Assist the Executive Director in identifying potential funding partners and help present high-quality proposals to potential sponsors for research and advocacy projects.

VALUED EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

1. At least 5 years of research and advocacy experience (including experience in Singapore), preferably in relation to women’s or human rights issues
2. University degree in a related field
3. Excellent research and advocacy skills
4. Strong people and team development skills
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills
6. Good knowledge of CEDAW
7. A strong grounding in the principles of feminism

In 2010, women made up more than half of the university graduates and 43.6% of the workforce in Singapore.

Yet, only 6.9% of women hold board positions; the majority of women occupy rank-and-file positions in a company. These jobs tend to command less income and prestige.

There is also a higher tendency for women to ‘drop out’ of the workforce once they reach their early 30s. What then is the financial well-being of our women?

With women having lower starting salaries, leaving the workforce at an early age, being vulnerable to long-term disabling illness there can be serious income security issues that we need to look at.

AWARE is keen to form a committee to look into this issue. The objective of this research is to have a better understanding and a more representative view of women in the economy.

This is a voluntary position and we are looking for volunteers who:

• Have backgrounds in research, economics, sociology
• Have research experience (quantitative)
• Are able to commit for a minimum of five months

AWARE is looking for a web designer who is able to provide the following services for our upcoming CEDAW initiatives:

Create a LOGO

This will be used in website posts and publicity collaterals for things like the AWARE CEDAW Shadow Report and various public education initiatives. This will help us to create a strong and distinct visual identity for our CEDAW advocacy work.

Design a WEBSITE

WordPress site preferred for easy maintenance and tracking of readership figures. Design can be modified from existing template or done from scratch, but must enable multiple users to create new pages, posts and modify comments.

The content, provided by AWARE staff and volunteers, will include sections on:

• How CEDAW works
• The main issues covered by CEDAW
• Progress of our next Shadow Report and other CEDAW initiatives
• Links to relevant news articles and websites, as well as AWARE’s main website
• A “featured post” section that will be updated regularly depending on the focus of our advocacy work at any particular moment in time

The website should be able to support infographics and videos as well as text. Wherever possible, these visual elements will be used instead of text posts to convey information about CEDAW in a more reader-friendly way.

The design should be engaging enough to appeal to people encountering CEDAW for the first time and sustain their attention and interest.

Make a TRAILER

This should be under 5 minutes and will be featured prominently on the AWARE CEDAW website.

Its purpose is to serve as the first point of entry for people learning about CEDAW. It should introduce how the treaty works and how it is used to improve gender equality in Singapore in a creative and compelling way.

Inspiring interviews, cheeky animation, emo music video – anything goes. As long as the trailer achieves the purpose of making viewers want to find out more about CEDAW, we are open to all ideas.

Together, we shall turn the Convention On All Forms Of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) into something that people can understand and use for advocacy efforts.

AWARE is currently completing a second research report on Workplace Sexual Harassment (WSH) and we need volunteers to be part of our Sexual Harassment Sub-Committee.

If you are interested in this area of sexual harassment, join us to examine the existing gaps in the system and help to raise awareness about this issue.

The research you undertake as members of this Sub-Committee will be included in AWARE’s next CEDAW Shadow Report, and be used to advocate for policy changes.

As members of this Sub-Committee, you will:

• Review and finalise the research report
• Conceptualise and implement a strategy to advocate for better systemic approaches for sexual harassment

We are looking for volunteers who:

• Have backgrounds in law, social work, counseling or an interest in advocacy
• Be able to commit to this project for a minimum of three months. The specific time commitment will be confirmed once we meet with all volunteers

AWARE has started work on a research project focusing on singles in Singapore, and we are looking for single, never married women to participate in an interview session with the researchers.

The aim of this research is to uncover what it is like to be single in Singapore and to explore the reasons behind increasing numbers of women choosing to stay single or delay marriage.

A parallel study of existing state policies will also be included, to ascertain the extent to which singles are marginalised in our society.

AWARE is looking for:
Single females living and/or working in Singapore, between the ages of 21 and 65, who are Singaporean Citizens.

Your opinions and ideas will be used in the writing of our final report. All the information you share is strictly confidential and no identifiable information will be used in any publications.
