Page 1 of 2 REPORT SUMMARY - WHAT WRC SINGAPORE DID IN 2004 The White Ribbon Campaign 2004 in Singapore was held successfully from 21 November to 6 December. More than 200 dedicated AWARE members and volunteers from all walks of lives, together with 30 government and commercial organisations and over 25 schools participated in the various activities organised to raise awareness on the issue of violence against women. In 2004, the focus was primarily to raise awareness to sexual violence within relationships or in the home. This campaign was made possible by many volunteers working through numerous lunchtimes, evenings, weekends and holidays; plus roping in their family members, relatives and friends, in the ribbon-making, quality-check, packing and distribution of the ribbons and brochures. We have distributed more than 200,000 white ribbons and brochures to 120,000 households and islandwide , at various MRT stations, the CBD area at Raffles Place/Far East Square and other distribution areas such as Little India, Chinatown, Orchard Road, Geylang Serai, Boat Quay, etc. Ribbon distribution
In addition, 100 posters with messages on date rape, marital rape and incests were posted at bus-stops slandwide and zocards with similar messages were distributed too. There were news broadcasts and interviews over the English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil radio channels; Primetime Morning Talk plus news features on the Straits Times, Streats, and Today, reaching out to the masses. We believe every attempt in reaching out, through whatever means has helped to touch many lives meaningfully. |
