30 Sep - Sex In The City: Protect You And Your Family Print E-mail

The Forum, organized by AWARE in partnership with Action For Aids, was held on the 30th of September at the Singapore Post Pavillion. The Forum served to create awareness of the rise in Sexually Transmitted Infections, (STI) especially in teenaged girls and amongst married women. It also served to encourage the practice of safer sex, to understand the psyche of why couples stray and to teach women how to protect themselves.  The Avenues and recourse available to women were also discussed.

The following Speakers presented their topics at the Forum: 

  1. Dr Priya Sen ( Deputy Head of the department of sexually transmitted infections control at the National Skin Centre) -- Sex In The City "Common Sexually Transmitted Infections" in Singapore
  2. Mr Anthony Yeo (Counseling and Care Centre, Clinical Director) -- Challenges In Modern Marriages
  3. Ms Ho Lai Peng (Principal medical social worker from the Communicable Disease Centre) -- Real Women  Real Life Challenges
  4. Mr Benedict Thambiah (Former Executive Director of Actions For AIDS)
    -- Getting Tested And Living With Aids
  5. Ms Braema Mathi (Immediate Past President, AWARE) -- Be Smart, Be Safe

A lively exchange followed during Q&A.  The first 100 attendees who registered were given vouchers for free health screening. They were given goodie bags with attractive gifts from kiehls, Galderma, Gaiya Yoga, Coverlook and Rockeby.

The Forum would be followed by a series of workshops in the coming months. The workshops organized by AWARE in partnership with Action For Aids, aims to equip participants with factual information about HIV/AIDS, Sexually transmitted infections (STI), detection and prevention while dispelling myths.
