A Celebration of the Unconventional – the Charity Premiere of award-winning "Mrs Henderson Presents” to benefit AWARE (Association of Women for Action and Research) PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 13th 2006 A Celebration of the Unconventional – the Charity Premiere of award-winning "Mrs Henderson Presents” to benefit AWARE (Association of Women for Action and Research) January 27, 2006 - Prompted by Straits Times journalist Lynn Kan’s article (“Aware: Short of $250,000 in funds”) published in the paper’s Charity at Home section on January 14, Festive Films and Golden Village Pictures are pledging proceeds from the Gala Premiere of Golden Globe-nominated "Mrs Henderson Presents" to AWARE with the objective of raising $10,000 in funds for its services for women in need. The film is based on the real life of Laura Henderson, a revolutionary theatre entrepreneur who contributed to supporting unmarried mothers and birth control campaigns in 1940s London. According to Ms Braema Mathi, President of AWARE, "like Mrs Henderson we all have it in us – to reinvent ourselves, to empower ourselves, to celebrate our sexuality, to support each other and to be unafraid. Mrs Henderson is a phenomenal woman. Come, celebrate the unconventional Mrs Henderson in all of us though this film.’’ Directed by award-wining director Stephen Frears and starring Academy Award-winner Judi Dench, Academy Award-nominee Bob Hoskins and Pop Idol star Will Young, "Mrs Henderson Presents" retraces the larger-than-life existence of Laura Henderson. Having just buried her beloved husband and at the ripe ‘young’ age of 69, Laura decides to buy a theatre and campaigns to have nude women grace her stage! A Celebration of the Unconventional - "Mrs Henderson Presents" Charity Premiere in aid of AWARE will be held on Monday February 13, 2006 at Golden Village Grand, Hall 6, Great World City.
