Feb 2006: Founder of the White Ribbon Campaign, Dr Michael Kaufman, will be in Singapore from 9th to 12th Feb to conduct workshops, give talks and to meet youths to share his expertise and share his experiences. 18 January 2006 PRESS RELEASE Re: Dr. Michael Kaufman Founder of the White Ribbon Campaign, Dr Michael Kaufman, will be in Singapore from 9th to 12th Feb to conduct workshops, give talks and to meet youths to share his expertise and share his experiences. Dr. Kaufman has worked extensively within the UN, and trained personnel from government ministries and corporations on issues concerning sexual harassment at the workplace as well as other workplace gender issues. A motivator, academic and trainer, Dr Kaufman has worked towards ending violence in families through the White Ribbon Campaign (WRC). The White Ribbon Campaign which started in 1991 has since spread to more than 60 countries and is the largest effort in the world of men working to end violence against women. The Association of Women for Action for Research has organised the WRC for the last two years and last year initiated the Male Chapter to organise the WRC. With support from Ministry of Community Development Youth & Sports, AWARE has managed to organize a series of events around Dr Kaufman’s visit in our effort to end violence in the families.
A Series of Talks and Forums have been planned in Singapore from 9-12 February 2006 Thu, 9 Feb 06 Public Forum for men & women interested in issues of ending violence against women and in encouraging gender equality Full Day Workshop for Men from diverse backgrounds, e.g. social workers, academics, or community leaders, religious leaders or teachers. Inspired by a 1984 seminar entitled "Women's Choices, Women's Lives", AWARE was registered in Singapore in November 1985 as a voluntary organisation of women with three main areas of focus: Support, Research and Advocacy. AWARE’s mission is to work towards gender equality, and has been involved in many advocacy projects to raise awareness of gender issues. AWARE also runs a Women's Helpline, a Legal Clinic and Face-to-Face Counselling services. |
