Free Legal Clinic

AWARE offers a free appointment-based legal clinic service for women who need to know their legal rights and options in order to take the next steps.

Our volunteer lawyers are able to help women understand how the law affects them within a free one-time 20-minute consultation.

These include situations within marriage, separation, divorce, custody, maintenance, family violence, monetary claims, and other personal issues.

Our volunteers are trained in civil and Syariah law. As the legal clinic service is conducted via phone call, it is essential to have a working Singapore telephone number. We are unable to make calls via WhatsApp.

  • 1 When is the AWARE legal clinic?

We host the legal clinic one evening a month.

If you have an urgent need, please consider other legal clinics across Singapore.

  • 2 How can I make an appointment?

To register for a legal clinic session, please call us via our Women’s Helpline (1800 777 5555 or reach out to us via our online chat). There is no walk-in option.

If you have experienced sexual violence or harassment, please contact the Sexual Assault Care Centre http://www.sacc.aware.org.sg/.

  • 3 Can I engage the legal clinic lawyer to review contracts, write letters, or represent me in court?

No, we do not have lawyers who can act on your behalf. The legal clinic service is limited to one-time 20-minute consultations.

You can find a lawyer through The Law Society of Singapore. If you need subsidised legal representation, you can approach the Legal Aid Bureau.

  • 4 Can I book more than one legal clinic session for my issue?

This is a one-time, 20-minute session. Please prepare specific questions that you wish to ask the lawyer to maximise your time.

If you have a different issue, you can request a different session. Please note that we may assign a different lawyer.

  • 5 Can I share documents with the lawyer in advance?

Please do not send any documents, as the lawyer is not able to review your case in detail. Please include your questions and case background in the registration form.

  • 6 I want a second opinion from my lawyer. Can I attend the AWARE legal clinic?

No, the AWARE legal clinic is only for individuals who have not engaged a lawyer.

  • 7 Can I remain anonymous?

The legal clinic will require the full name of yours and the opposing party so that we can ensure there is no conflict of interest between your case and the lawyer.

  • 8 I am a lawyer and would like to volunteer at AWARE’s legal clinic.

Lawyers need to have been called to the Singapore Bar. To volunteer, register at our Volunteer Centre.
