What is Living on the Edge?

Living on the Edge is a "Povery Simulation"  and facilitated discussion to promote understanding and empathy for families and individuals living on a low income.

As part of DOT's and AWARE's advocacy work to raise awareness about poverty in Singapore and sensitize stakeholders to the circumstances faced by the poor, we run an experiential workshop where participants get to experience being in the shoes of multi-stressed families and the challenges and choices they face and make on a day-to-day basis.

What you do as a volunteer

Volunteers will be trained to play roles so that participants of the workshop will experience what it is like to live the lives of multi-stressed, low-income families and the challenges and choices they face and make on a daily basis. The workshop aims to give participants an emotional experience and insight into the realities of the poor.

You do not need acting skills! Anyone can be a volunteer. On the day of the simulation, you will receive a briefing about your role and simple instructions on what to do. If you are interested in roles that involve more acting, let us know! There are a few roles where acting is an asset.

Employment Agency (2-3)
