The FWA believes in the education and advancement of women, both in their career paths and in their family lives.

AWARE partners with the Financial Women’s Association to bring FIT to greater heights

In August, AWARE formed a strategic partnership with the Financial Women’s Association to leverage on their expertise in the area of finance. The partnership serves to broaden FIT’s pool of expert trainers and bring the programme to greater heights.

Financial Intelligence Training (FIT) is a concise one-day programme that was developed and launched by AWARE in May 2003 to teach adults personal money management and investing skills. Since then, FIT has taught over 1,000 people from all walks of life.

The life skill of money management presently receives little attention in formal education. AWARE and the FWA believe there is enormous scope to extend a Singapore-based personal money management course to empower adults to take charge of their personal finances and make informed choices for greater financial security.

On the 29th of September, AWARE organised a train-the-trainers session for volunteers from the FWA which was followed by an all day workshop at the NUS SAW Center for Financial Studies on the 6th of October. The workshop was attended by more than 50 undergraduate students from NUS. The morning consisted of a lecture which was followed by a realistic, hands-on game about money and investing in the afternoon.

The group was divided into smaller teams at the start of the class to encourage discussion and facilitate in the playing of the FIT game. Each team had a FIT facilitator to help them understand and play the game more effectively.

Participants enjoyed the fun interactive, hands- on game and left the session savvier with their finances. The feedback from participants was very positive. AWARE and the FWA plan to have more such sessions in the months ahead.
